Deakyn DeHoet did something at this year’s PIAA Track and Field Championships that no Greene County sprinter has ever done – and he did it twice.
DeHoet joins 12 other elite track athletes in Greene County history who won at least one state championship. However, all those champions were either hurdlers, distance runners, or field event participants.
The Jefferson-Morgan senior competed for Beth-Center through a cooperative agreement because Jefferson-Morgan does not field a track and field team. His 10.51 in the 100-meter dash was not only the fastest time in Class 2A but also faster than the Class 3A champion’s winning time. He also won the PIAA Class2A 200-meter dash with a time of 21.29.
Earlier in the season, DeHoet also captured WPIAL Class 2A championships in both the 100 and 200 meters, completing a rare WPIAL-PIAA sprint double.
