Going Greene: Waynesburg – A Name That Captures History
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Greene County United Way’s annual Stuff the Bus will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at the Lion’s Club Park in Waynesburg. The event is celebrating its 22nd year helping area children get prepared for the start of school.

Stuff the Bus continues to expand its impact and participation annually over 21 years. Beyond providing essential school supplies, the event has evolved into a day of joy and friendship for children and families alike. Alongside distributing backpacks, GCUW offers shoe and clothing distributions, free haircuts, dental and eye appointments, lunch, ice cream, and a variety of outdoor activities. Local resources like the Corner Cupboard Food Bank, Bowlby & Flenniken libraries, Blueprints, Dress for Success, DVSSP, SPHS Care Center, the Salvation Army, and Cornerstone Care are also onsite to support families holistically.

Registration for Stuff the Bus is from July 1 to July 31. After those dates, please contact the GCUW office at 724-852-1009 or mforbes@greenecountyunitedway.org.

The Community Foundation of Greene County awarded $10,000 to United Way of Greene County from the Campbell Family Fund to support Stuff the Bus.

“We are excited to host the 22nd annual Stuff the Bus event, and with the generous support from the Campbell Family Fund, we will be able to assist more Greene County K-12 students preparing for the start of the school year,” MaChal Forbes, Greene County United Way Executive Director, said.

If you’d like to help with items for the event, school supplies are being collected at the following locations: Blueprints Senior Centers, Bowlby Library, Cornerstone Care locations, Waynesburg University, First Federal locations, Flenniken Library, Baily Insurance, RGB Coffee Shop, Mt. Morris Community Center, and Greene County United Way.

Also, as the GCUW gears up for Stuff the Bus, their Matching Mayhem campaign runs through the month of July. During July, any individual donation(s) made to GCUW’s Stuff the Bus will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $5,000 by First Federal Saving & Loan Assoc. of Greene County. Want to help the GCUW meet First Federals’ challenge? Drop off your donation at the GCUW office or stop by an in-person event: July 23 – Sounds of Summer at the Lions Club Park from 6-8pm, or July 29 – Rain Day Festival at Monument Park from 11am-9pm. You can also donate online at greenecountyunitedway.org.

Interested in volunteering? Contact the GCUW at 724-852-1009 or at mforbes@greenecountyunitedway.org to volunteer for Stuff the Bus or find out about other volunteer opportunities.
