Waynesburg University recently inducted 101 students into its Alpha Lambda Delta honor society during a Sept. 25 ceremony in Roberts Chapel.
The ceremony recognized students for their academic achievements during their first year of college. After taking the organization’s pledge, which emphasizes scholarship, service, diligence and integrity, each student received a certificate and pin to mark their membership.
The event also included the official installation of the university’s chapter, with Jody Marsh, a member of Alpha Lambda Delta’s Board of Trustees, presenting the chapter charter. The ceremony ended with a candle-lighting tradition inspired by the organization’s motto, “we shall pass our torches on, one to another.”
Founded in 1924, Alpha Lambda Delta is a national honor society that recognizes first-year college students who excel academically. Students are invited to join if they earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher during their first year.
Beyond academic recognition, membership offers students opportunities to develop leadership skills, participate in community service and prepare for future careers. Members can also apply for national scholarships offered through the organization.
For Waynesburg University, establishing a chapter gives students another way to celebrate their accomplishments while encouraging them to stay involved on campus and continue working toward their goals.

Madison Zeroski, Bethany Byrne, Bryn Lahew, and Olivia Dirk were inducted at the ceremony.
