Get to Know DR: Videography

Do you have video? Video is a versatile and emotionally engaging format that provides a real-life picture of what’s happening with your business or event and is easy to share across multiple platforms. Consumers love video because it’s easy to digest, entertaining and engaging, and marketers like it because it can give a potentially huge return on investment (ROI) through many channels.

Social feeds like Facebook and Instagram show people what they want to see based on previous activity. And video is what they want to see. Video posts on social media are rising in newsfeeds everywhere; consumers are much more likely to stop for eye-catching video content than for anything else and once the algorithm notices this, it prioritizes videos in each feed.

Not sure what you’re doing that deserves a video? Think again! Video is perfect for product explanations, news and announcements, contest, personnel profiles, marketing, history, entertainment, event coverage and more! Companies that turn to video – especially online – are growing revenues nearly 50% faster than those that don’t.

Making sure that you get the best results for your business is Eric Palfrey, Direct Results’ videographer and social media manager. Eric makes sure any video produced through Direct Results receives one-on-one attention from the very start to the end. He begins each project with a concept review, working with the client to know who their audience is and what they want them to know. “To give people what they want, you have to listen to what they’re looking for. Then use your heart and mind to follow the path from your viewers perspective. What thoughts and emotions will a person experience that will result in achieving the defined goals of our client,” Eric says. “With video, we can use imagery and sound to manipulate the minds of our viewers and cause a reaction that will elicit the desired response.”

Eric then moves onto storyboarding the project with a rough plan of what images and sounds will be used. His pre-production process also includes detailing locations, participants, equipment, and how each scene should be filmed. Once all the pre-production work has been completed, Eric begins filming, either on-site or in a studio. Once filmed, he will edit the video, adjust audio, add music and create additional graphics. He will export the final video in a variety of popular formats to accommodate live, TV, and online channel distribution and then deliver the files.

Eric lived in the mountains of central West Virginia for most of his life, but now resides in Morgantown. He’s enjoying all of the hustle and bustle that Morgantown has to offer his family and finding new places to play and things to experience. On weekends, he still gets to return to his whitewater roots.

Eric initially got into the video production business as a way to get paid to have fun. “I’ve had some really cool experiences, with some awesome people over the years, as they let me tag along to tell their stories about the adventure,” Eric shares.

“Over the last 20 years as a whitewater raft guide, I’ve gotten to know what motivates people pretty well. Whether they’re looking to have fun, to feel safe, or to be thrilled—everyone wants to hear a message that feels like it’s meant just for them.”

Video allows our clients to look their customers in the eye, and share a meaningful message. There’s no better way to let people see how excited you are to offer your services, show them how useful your product will be, or inspire them to join forces with you to make things happen. You need video.
