Dan Morgan was a standout football player and wrestler for Waynesburg High School in the late 1960s. He went on to a successful collegiate career and National Championship at the University of Delaware. His grandson is following in his footsteps….. and beyond.
Michael Boyle, who is a senior at Columbus Bishop Watterson, captured his third Ohio Individual State Championship in March, winning the Division II 215-pound title after previously winning at 165 pounds as a freshman and 215 as a sophomore.
However, his biggest accomplishment came in August, when he represented the United States at the U20 World Wrestling Championships in Bratislava, Slovakia. Competing at 97 kilograms, he powered through four matches without a loss, recording two technical falls, a pin and another technical fall in the championship bout. Boyle defeated Russia’s Rodion Sanakoev, 12-2, to capture the U20 world championship.
The Ohio State commit has also excelled in football, helping Bishop Watterson win consecutive state championships. With another football season underway, Boyle will eventually return his attention to wrestling—and his future as a Buckeye.
