Natalie Eddy of Mount Morris has written and published the second children’s book in “The Adventures of Charlie” series, available now on Amazon.com. In the book, Charlie and his dog, Jenny, travel back in time to discover that history is not as “boring” as he previously thought.
When Charlie struggles to write a school report about the Mason-Dixon line, his old friend McDoogle – a colorful Scottish bird with a talent for time travel – shows up at the Mason-Dixon Park to help the boy realize how exciting, fun and interesting history can be. He takes Charlie and Jenny on an unforgettable journey into the past.
Along the way, Charlie meets the founders of the Mason-Dixon line, Charles Mason, an astronomer, and Jeremiah Dixon, a surveyor. The two famous historical figures are credited with drawing the line, which served as the border between Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia and later became an important boundary between slave and free territory during the American Civil War.
Like the first book in the series, The Adventures of Charlie: Thunder, the new book is written as a namesake tribute to Eddy’s grandson, Charlie. Geared toward ages 4 to 12, the 38-page paperback was designed by Eddy’s daughter-in-law, Heather Eddy, who is Charlie’s mother.
While on his journey, Charlie witnesses the challenges of surveying the famous boundary and learns about the people and events that shaped its history. Filled with adventure, friendship, and discovery, The Adventures of Charlie: The Mason-Dixon Line shows that history is anything but boring.
Natalie Eddy is a retired Adjunct Professor at West Virginia University and a current professor at Southern New Hampshire University. She built a distinguished career as a magazine writer for international environmental publications, was a public relations specialist and editor at WVU and was a local newspaper reporter at the Uniontown Herald-Standard.
