Ryerson Station State Park

Owls have special adaptations that make them efficient night predators. Venture into the Ryerson Station woods in search of these nocturnal hunters. Bring hiking boots and a flashlight. Meet at the Iron Bridge.

Join us for a hike at Ryerson Station State Park to learn about our work to protect streams in Southwest Pennsylvania from the impacts of underground coal mining. This easy-going hike is a great opportunity to learn about our work with the Center for Coalfield Justice to keep

Insects provide food for many animals and services for humans such as pollination. They eat wild plants, crop plants and each other. Join park staff to learn about their important role in the ecosystem and to collect a few of your own. Meet at Pavilion 3 in the Day Use Area.

This will be a challenging 7-8 mile hike on hilly terrain.  Test your endurance and fitness level as we hike half of the trails in the park.  Bring water and wear comfortable hiking shoes.  Meet at the park office.

Discover the importance of bats and dispel some of the myths surrounding them.  Then head outside and count the bats as they leave their daytime roost.  Meet at the park office.

Bring dad to build a nest box to put up in your yard and connect with nature as a family.  All materials and tools necessary for building a nest box will be provided.  Meet at the park office.  This is a free program, but a limited number of nest box kits are available.  Please contact

Bring your children to the park for some fun nature learning!  Children will enjoy a story and participate in an activity, game or craft. Activities are designed for children ages 3-6, but older siblings are welcome too!  Meet at the park office on Bristoria Road.

More critters live in a stream than you think! Come out and cool off in the shade of the forest while we explore Kent Run and the macroinvertebrates that live there. Wear waterproof boots or shoes that can get wet (no sandals). Meet at the Iron Bridge.

After travelling nearly 2,000 miles from their winter home, ruby-throated hummingbirds are back. Join park naturalist Andy at the amphitheater along McNay Ridge Road for a discussion about these amazing acrobats. A fire will be ready for you to cook up some S'mores at the beginning of the program. Parking is available in the lot
