County Conversations: Drug & Alcohol Program

The County of Greene government provides our community with a variety of services and care. Each department within our government provides something to our community to make Greene County a better place to live and grow. Have you ever wondered about the programs they provide and how they impact you and those you care about? Every month, we will sit down for a conversation with a representative from one of the county government’s departments to keep our readers informed of the services offered.

October is National Substance Abuse Prevention month and the Greene County Drug & Alcohol Program, part of the Human Services branch, works with area residents to provide a range of services related to substance abuse. These services include out-patient, intensive out-patient, detoxification, non-hospital rehabilitation, hospital rehabilitation, long-term in-house treatment, and a halfway house. These services are provided to Greene County residents through contracts with agencies licensed by the Pa Department of Health.

The Greene County Drug and Alcohol Program provides administrative case management services in the form of screenings, American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM Criteria), Level of Care assessments (LOC), referrals to residential treatment services, intensive case management and coordination of treatment services to all of Greene County residents. To gain access to these services for a substance abuse disorder, clients can call (724) 852-5276.

In addition to offering drug and alcohol treatment services to Greene County residents, the program supplies Narcan to all Greene County first responders who complete training and request Narcan. The program also provides drug and alcohol prevention to Greene County schools and throughout the community.

“I am especially proud of the establishment of relationships with all five school districts’ administrations.  These wonderful working relationships allow us to educate and provide outreach to the Greene County youth on an on-going basis,” shares John Fox, the director of the Drug & Alcohol Program.
