On January 13, the Way Community Center of Greene County received exciting news—Senator Camera Bartolotta played a key role in securing $776,300 in funding for furnishings and the second phase of renovations.
The celebration at The Way was a momentous occasion. “It was my great honor to present over $750,000 in grants to the leadership team of this incredible community center, which serves as an anchor on High Street in uptown Waynesburg,” said Senator Bartolotta.
The unwavering support of this organization is a testament to the strong sense of community that defines The Way. Senator Bartolotta expressed enthusiasm for its future, stating, “I am excited to see what this dedicated team has in store and look forward to celebrating many more milestones. Last night was a great night for The Way, for Greene County, and for our corner of the world.”
Special recognition was given to The Way’s Board of Directors, with gratitude extended to Mark Fox, Jonathan Johnson, Sue Peirce, and Commissioner Jared Edgreen for their steadfast commitment to the community.
A Growing Vision for The Way
The Way officially opened its doors on November 30, 2024, during the Waynesburg Open House. Volunteers welcomed visitors with gift wrapping, snacks, and hot chocolate while children played pickup basketball in the unfinished gym.
Phase one of renovations focused on both the exterior and interior of the building. Now, with the newly secured funding, The Way is ready to embark on Phase 2, which will include:
• Finishing the gym floor
• Renovating the front interior of the building
• Installing air conditioning in the back classrooms
• Launching new programs to further engage the community
Dawn Mankey, acting director of The Way, has an exciting lineup of programs in development, including open gym nights, a women’s Christian book club, the Startable Program, health and wellness initiatives, and potential cooking and arts & crafts classes.
The mission of The Way is clear: To invest in Greene County by seeing the value of each person, forming connections through love, providing a space for growth, and uplifting through education.
