Sheep & Fiber Fest
May 17, 2014 @ 8:00 am - May 18, 2014 @ 5:00 pm
FreeEnjoy a fun filled day at the Greene County Fairgrounds exploring the many facets of natural fiber production and use. The Sheep Breed Pavilion is a must see for kids and adults alike. See the variety of sheep breeds and learn about their unique traits and uses. Visit the alpaca booth and learn about the differences between sheep and alpacas. Throughout the day, watch sheep & alpaca shearing and dog shepherding. Juried craft and fiber art supply vendors are setup indoors displaying a wide variety of items made from natural fibers (sheep, alpaca, and others) and assorted finished crafts related to the fiber field. This is THE place to buy yarns, fleeces and supplies for your own fiber arts projects.
Interested in seeing a fiber to shawl competition? Visit on Saturday morning and watch as a bag of raw fiber is carded, spun and woven into a shawl. Teams are competing to see who can produce the best product in the time allotted. Stick around for the auction and perhaps you can go home with a truly unique, one-of-a-kind shawl!
Enter our photo or fiber arts contests to see if your talents can win a blue ribbon, People’s Choice, or Best in Show award. (All entries are due BEFORE the festival weekend so be sure to click the applications link above to get the full details about fees and submission dates.)
Check out the list of kids activities available for the young ones and the fiber arts classes open to adults and kids 12 or older. Be sure to sign-up ahead of time as seating is limited.
Throughout Saturday and Sunday, regional chefs will demonstrate how to prepare various cuts of American Lamb meat. Be sure to taste free samples of their creations. Fresh lamb will be available on site for purchase along with recipes and cooking directions. Buy your lunch from local non-profit organizations and enjoy it while listening to live entertainment.
