PA Migration Bird Count

May 12, 2018

May 12

The Pennsylvania Migration Count (PAMC) takes place each spring on the second Saturday in May, in conjunction with International Migratory Bird Day. The rules are simple: spend some time outside counting all birds encountered in a specific area. Participants are free to roam their favorite county birding locales at any time during the 24 hour period, starting at 12:01am, counting every bird that they find. Along with the number of birds you see of each species, keep track of your location, miles traveled and time spent counting.

Totals are passed along to county compliers, who in turn, report to the state compiler. The state complier maintains the PAMC data and the annual report is published in Pennsylvania Birds, the journal of the Pennsylvania Society for Ornithology.
